Former SEC Attorney Mark Zaruba Joins Williams Mullen

Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that Mark Zaruba has joined the firm as an associate in the Business & Corporate practice. Mr. Zaruba previously spent nearly six years in the Chief Counsel’s Office of the Division of Investment Management at the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), and he will work frequently with the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Public Company Reporting and Governance teams.

While at the SEC, Mr. Zaruba developed substantial experience with SEC regulatory and compliance matters arising under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. His asset management experience focuses on registered funds (including closed-end funds and business development companies), private funds, investment advisers and new investment products.

Prior to his tenure at the SEC, Mr. Zaruba worked for three years as an attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he represented clients in corporate-related matters, including mergers & acquisitions and corporate financings and restructurings.

“We’re excited to welcome Mark to the team,” Greg Bishop, chair of the firm’s Business & Corporate practice, said. “Coming from the SEC, his regulatory and compliance experience will be an asset for our clients seeking help with securities, corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions.”

Mr. Zaruba earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is licensed to practice in New York only.
