Virginia Delegate Dave Albo to Join Williams Mullen’s Government Relations Team
Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that Dave Albo, a 24-year veteran of Virginia’s House of Delegates, will join the firm’s Government Relations practice. Mr. Albo announced in April that he will not seek reelection. He will step down as a delegate in the fall and join Williams Mullen shortly thereafter.
Since 1994, Mr. Albo has represented more than 85,000 Virginians in the Commonwealth’s 42nd House District, located in Fairfax County. He also served as chair of the House’s Courts of Justice committee for the past 12 years and on the Joint Legislative Audit Review Commission and the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission.
As a legislator who supported many bipartisan efforts, Mr. Albo wrote and sponsored hundreds of bills that impacted individuals and businesses throughout Virginia. His major accomplishments include authoring the Northern Virginia portions of the 2013 Transportation Act and helping close literally hundreds of loopholes in DUI and criminal laws. In addition, Mr. Albo restructured the entire Virginia ABC, changing it from an Agency to a Private Authority, co-sponsored the creation of the written Virginia Rules of Evidence and helped modernize Virginia’s Computer Crimes Act.
Mr. Albo will join the firm’s highly regarded Government Relations group, led by former Virginia Delegate Bill Axselle. The Government team has decades of experience advocating for businesses, associations and individuals at the state and local levels and is repeatedly rated by Best Lawyers® as a “Best Law Firm” for Government Relations in both Richmond and Raleigh. In addition, South Political Report rates it one of the top Government Affairs firms in Virginia.
“Since I was first elected 24 years ago, Reggie Jones, Bill Axselle and the Williams Mullen Government Relations Group stood out to me as amongst the best and most highly regarded government relations teams in the Commonwealth.” Mr. Albo said. “I have spent 24 years as a legislator helping my constituents let the Commonwealth know their views and problems. I am now looking forward to continuing to help people and businesses communicate with their government.”
In addition to Mr. Axselle and Mr. Jones, Mr. Albo joins Katie Payne, Ken Hutcheson, Patrick Cushing, Nicole Pugar and Jessica Bowman as full-time Virginia lobbyists who help clients navigate the legislative and political process. The team also includes lobbyists in North Carolina, plus Virginia lobbyists who split their time as regulatory attorneys, including corporate attorney and lobbyist Brian Ball, economic development attorney and former Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Pat Gottschalk, health care attorney and lobbyist Matt Cobb and environmental attorney and lobbyist Speaker Pollard.
“We’re excited to have Dave join our team,” Mr. Axselle said. “His legislative experience speaks for itself, and he will be a great advocate at the Capitol for our clients.”
Mr. Albo is also an experienced litigator who will also continue his criminal defense legal practice. He has been practicing law for 29 years, was a former General District Court Prosecutor and he is a five-time top-rated attorney by the Washingtonian and Northern Virginia Magazine.
