Williams Mullen Continues to Lead in Unmanned Systems with Addition of Respected Geospatial Attorney Kevin Pomfret

Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that geospatial law attorney Kevin Pomfret has joined the firm’s Corporate practice in the Tysons Corner office. He adds his knowledge of almost 30 years as a thought leader in geospatial technology to the firm’s Unmanned Systems industry team and clients. With experience both in the U.S. government and private practice, he brings comprehensive insights and forethought into the risks and opportunities that businesses and governments now face due to the fast-growing area of location-based technology and Big Data.

Mr. Pomfret counsels companies that both generate and use geospatial technology and data, including Unmanned Systems, mapping companies, sensor manufacturers, satellite providers, and cloud and software providers, many of whom are also government contractors. He represents their needs in corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing and private equity transactions. He also assists clients with technology licensing, privacy and policy issues associated with the collection, use, storage and distribution of geoinformation around the world.

In addition to his legal representation, Mr. Pomfret founded and is the Executive Director of the Centre for Spatial Law and Policy. He is on the Board of Directors of the Open Geospatial Consortium and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Humanitarian UAV Network and the National Geospatial Advisory Committee. In addition to these leadership roles, he is called on to speak around the globe on this growing topic critical to issues of privacy, national security and economic development.

Prior to his private legal practice, Mr. Pomfret served as a satellite imagery analyst for the U.S. government, developed U.S. imagery collection strategy for monitoring of arms control treaties, and served on U.S. Intelligence Community staff responsible for coordinating imagery collection and requirements and developing new systems.

Mr. Pomfret earned his J.D. from the Washington & Lee University School of Law and his B.A. from Bates College.
