Williams Mullen partners Larry Parker and Ken Shevlin discuss the Corporate Transparency Act and how you may be affected.
As many will be aware, the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) goes into effect on January 1, 2024. For those that are not yet familiar with the CTA, get ready. It was enacted into law on January 1, 2021 as part of the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020 and is designed to enhance beneficial ownership transparency in the U.S. in order to “protect the U.S. financial system from illicit use and impede malign actors from abusing legal entities, like shell companies, to conceal proceeds of corrupt and criminal acts.”
Do you know if you are a reporting company? If yes/no, do you know what needs to be reported and by when? While January 2024 seems far away, preparing now will save you a big headache at the end of the year.
