K-JD: What Professional Development Skills Are Missing in Generation Z?

Sophie Mohrmann presented to the National Association for Law Placement as part of their 2021 Professional Development Institute in collaboration with American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education and the Professional Development Consortium

Sophie’s presentation covered the Generation Z workforce, especially those who head straight from college to law school to practice, and how best to understand them. She discussed the use of student development theory and adult learning models to help bridge the professional skills development gap between law school and law firm for summer associates and new lawyers who are K-JD. The goal is to help organizations motivate new professionals to understand a law firm’s culture and develop core professional competencies leading to the successful practice of law.
